There is no Tim

Well, there is a Tim, but there is no starter. What I should have titled this log was “there is no starter”, but that wouldn’t have made for much of a title.

Moving on from matters of theology and such, I’d like to say how much we enjoyed this day.

I won’t bore you with all the details, and Tim only knows how many Healeys were there today.

I would guess there were more than 150 Austin Healeys participating in today’s event, including some very fine examples of this mark.

The highlight of the day was a tour straight through Main Street in Deadwood, then up to Lead and back. With an uninterrupted line of a 150 or more cars driving in close formation, it was more like a parade.

An 18 mile parade through small towns and hamlets. Much of the way there were small groups of people armed with cell phones taking pictures, coupled with greetings and friendly waves.

It was quite an experience. The coordinators of the event had arranged to shut down an untold number of intersections and highways with State Troopers and traffic control all working seamlessly together.

Main Street in Deadwood was a perfect venue to end the tour, where we parked the cars right in the middle of the street. The Minnesota Club conducted the event with unbelievable efficiency. I have been to a number of these events, both near and far, and today was the gold standard. Bravo Minnesota.

Off to dinner at the base of Mt Rushmore.

We were hoping to see the monument lit up, but the fog rolled in and you couldn’t see the a damn thing.

Even at that there was still beauty to appreciate.

Oh by the way, the Healey runs perfectly with the exception that you can’t turn it off and start it without a friendly push. Just another compelling reason to remain near to and on good terms with your friends.

Since I began to write this post I learned that our friends, Louis and Bonnie Fisher, spoke with a friend in Sturgis and a fella named Ken is going to tow our trailer back to California for us.

So. there may not be a Tim, but there is a God.

  1. Hi Jeff –

For all you’ve been through, it seems like you have things pretty-well handled. It looks like you just have to roll with it and the good times will be found. Enjoy the good times!
